Which teleconverter for nikon d90

Matt Laur , Feb 15, Hey Matt Thanks for the response. Yes ideally I'd love to be closer when shooting the motorcycle stunts but those guys are flying by sometimes at over 80mph on one wheel. In regards to the recital. The stage is usually well lit but its the distance from the seating area that concerned me.

I usually have to sit a good distance back tobe placed above the stage level. In some of the performances the lighting is dimmed for a dramatic effect such as ballet performances.

So you think the f4 would be a better fit for the low light sittuations? Also with uising the TC 20 for the motorcycle stunt photos will that funcition well for high speed shots?

Keep in mind these take place outdoors in broad daylight so the lighting issue is non existant. Thanks again for your advise Matt.

It is greatly appreciated. The bad news is that any TC, even a 1. ShunCheung , Feb 15, As many other people I don't think it is a good idea to use a TC with a zoom lens for all the reasons above. But sometimes one has to live with it and compromise. If it was me I would go for a mm lens instead.

That could be another option but the AF is much slower. Rene 1 , Feb 15, So the mm f4 sounds to be a better investment than the TC.

I saw a mm 2. I assume being a 2. I saw one on CL but the owner hasn't responded to me yet. I'm hoping he is willing to do a partial trade with some cash then I would be in better standings. Well thank you to everyone for your input. I greatly appreciate everyone's efforts to help me find the perfect fit. If anyone happens to be selling a f4 let me know.

Monopod or Tripod, but for your active purposes a monopod should do better. Yes you can get good focus handholding mm but you can get even better results on focus with monopod, and more importantly framing. You can put a 1. I have the and a 1. Works just great in decent light, don't listen to the naysayers. The only thing you have to be wary of is using maximums with the teleconverter on. I saw a great page somewhere where a guy tested this combo and explained it, but can't find the link.

Anyway, by maximums, I mean if you have the aperture wide open which I belive is 4. Probably only to about the mm range. Sign in to check out Check out as guest.

David Bottel am, 25 March Hello, Will the Sigma mm lens work with a 2x teleconverter attached to a Nikon D If so which teleconverter would you recommend. Regards, David.

Publish Preview. Bloozecruz 12 years ago. Post Reply Preview. The real problem isn't "compatibility". It's that a 2x teleconverter takes away two stops of light.

I had the original seller send it back to Sigma before I purchased. Sigma re-chipped it and it works perfectly now. But that is no guarantee that it will do so in the future. It might have to be sent back and rechipped again or it might lose some functionality in the future what might Nikon replace AF-S lenses with?

It's nice. It's a not bad idea to get a eclipse image with the scene. Thanks for sharing. I'll consider to get mm one. Whether silhoutting can really work well with the eclipse is uncertain.

In the Barrow shot the sun is still overexposed with no safe solar filter, and the backlighting of objects on the surface mainly comes from the light scattered by the thin clouds that look thick just above the low horizon. A shot of the eclipsed sun properly exposed through a proper filter may black out the sky surrounding the sun.

A possibility could be a multi-exposure shot which the D90 can do , showing changes in the eclipse. Here is a D with a Nikkor mm f4 lens and a Vivitar 2x teleconverter, and the results Moon from sea-level. If it's just going to be for a one day event I'd look into renting a lens for a day or two Can also look into finding older manual focus lenses on ebay, can find some real bargains that way, you've got time to do some research. Thanks for the remind.

I forgot once cover with the filter it turns all black except the sun. I saw a friend's photo, he take the pic of the city and eclipse, and according on the day sun position, combined it into 1 by photoshop. It was pretty nice. I'll try to make 1 after I manage to take photo of the eclipse hopefully the weather is good that day. I see The moon photo seems a bit blur, is the weather wasn't so good when you took this photo?

I cannot do much better shooting at sea-level, with miles of atmosphere above me which is why astronomical telescopes are built on high mountains. Added to that is the "light pollution" of the US East Coast night, which scatters back from the atmosphere.

All combined, that is about as good as it gets, on a clear night. Not great. I hope that answers your question. Keep in mind that the solar filter is likely to reduce shutter speed to levels that would show camera shake handheld with a long telephoto, even with VR.

My filter hasn't arrived yet, so I don't know exactly. You will need a good tripod. A front heavy lens is going to be a strain on a travel tripod that is too flimsy. The combination weighs g 3lb Whatever you get, practice taking solar pictures before the trip.
