Discover what makes you happy

Honestly, one of the first versions of Listen to your Heart included that question. Then I realized I am morally opposed to it. So often people think they know what they want only to create it and feel stuck inside a prison. But the main philosophy of this book, and of Soul Scroll Journals, is of connecting to your joy right now.

Filling your life with things that make you happy right now. And trusting that as you expand fully into the present moment, you will naturally expand into the next chapter of your life. Compare this to writing down every detail of what you want your life to look like in 5 years and then feeling frustrated, overwhelmed or not taking action because you feel so far away from where you want to be.

It's very important to cultivate happiness for where you are right now while reaching for more, and I believe a great way to do that is by focusing on expanding so fully into the present moment that your life has no choice but to also expand. And spoiler — that's one of the questions inside Listen to Your Heart guided journal. During Week 3 of the journal, you'll go deep into designing your next level, which is really about making the life you have right now the most amazing it can possibly be.

Creating change in your life, and even achieving your dreams and goals, is about making little tiny shifts and adding new habits over time. For me, I need a daily spiritual practice, which has changed over the years, but is now my decadent morning routine.

A happy life is one with balance. Where you know what matters, what your dreams and goals are, and you do your best to incorporate most of the things into most of the days. Enjoy the journey of realizing your dreams. I read this and felt so emotional because it made me remember things about my childhood that I had intentionally forgotten because they were so painful and I realized that they are the walls separating me from my own happiness. Just added to your cart. Most people can talk about the things they are passionate about without getting tired or bored… Just like with activities you find enjoyable, anything that makes you talk non-stop may be your calling in life. For example, if you can endlessly talk about french movies, new makeup palettes, or car models — you might find that these things are exactly what makes you happy in life. Try to remember yourself in the early years of your childhood or teenage years: what was your favorite thing then?

Was it playing ball? Traveling with your parents? Playing in the sand? Write these things down to reveal a beautiful matrix of all the things that made you happy. Chances are, most of them can also be the answer you need. When searching for your true calling, it may be a good idea to follow people who have already found it! Most of us chase money all of our lives, and all our life decisions are based on this factor.

However, sit down and visualize your life as if you had all the money in the world. And that is the perfect place and time to create a change in your life, and take that first step towards your dreams. If you are striving to find happiness, it may be closer than you think.

You may not even need to find that mystical purpose everyone keeps talking about. Have a look at your life and think about what you are doing right. Do not focus solely on those situations, but also reflect on who you were in the past, who you are now and who you would like to be in the future.

Do not base your concept of happiness on what others believe is happiness. Your happiness is your own. For instance, if competing in chess matches makes you happy, then that is your concept of happiness, even if others disagree. For instance, if you enjoy putting ketchup on your baked potato, but your friends find it disgusting — do not stop putting ketchup on your potato simply because they do not like it.

Be your own person and do not let others influence who you are or what you want from life. Do you want to find out what makes you happy? If so, make a plan. In other words, think about what you want to do with your life and develop a plan, complete with goals, to help you grab your happiness. For instance, if you want to become a physician, but you only have an English degree, sign up for additional science and math courses at your local college, successfully pass the courses, take the MCAT and apply for medical school.

Do not get into the mind frame that you cannot be a physician simply because your undergraduate degree is in English. You can do whatever you want — you just have to plan for it and take the first step.

Life is too short not to be happy and there is nothing worse than being miserable the majority of the time. If something is making you unhappy, make a plan to change it. Realistic goals can help you find out what makes you happy. It is important to remember that finding happiness is a journey. In other words, happiness is not given to you — you must work hard for it. According to the educational website, PBS , one of the best ways to travel along the path to happiness is to set realistic goals or goals that you know you can accomplish with a hard work and perseverance.

Short-term goals should be simple enough that you can complete them within a day, week or a couple of months, while long-term goals should be attainable, but take more time to complete. Do not fool yourself by developing unrealistic and illogical goals because it will only lead you towards heartbreak and defeat. For instance, do not make a goal to participate in the upcoming Olympic track competition, if you have never ran in a track completion before.
